If there is one thing that stands out at Heatherwood, it is the excellence of our staff. In a sector where high turnover and usage of agency staff are the norm, we are proud of the loyalty and professionalism of the wonderful people who work at Heatherwood.
90 per cent of our staff have worked at the home for over three years with some having been in post 15 years or more. Staff continually tell us they love working at the Home because unlike bigger, less personal environments, we provide an opportunity for staff to get to build trusting relationships with residents.
And because most of our staff live locally, often within walking distance, they feel part of the community and are able to cover for each other when colleagues are unwell or on holiday.
In return for our staff’s commitment, we provide training above and beyond statutory minimum requirements and rather than take the easy option of ‘ticking boxes’ with online training courses, we insist our staff are trained face to face by a qualified nurse. All our training courses are accredited by Skills for Care.
Importantly, there is no ‘crossing boundaries’ at Heatherwood. Many of our healthcare assistants are educated to degree level and have experience in dealing with complex needs and because of the excellent team spirit where each member of staff trusts his or her colleague, our residents enjoy a seamless care service.
